Pamela Singhs's self-portraits in Lutholim, Goa will be on view in the third edition of the GoaPhoto International Photography Festival. “One of the themes explored is "The Private / The Domestic;" the festival venues lend themselves to a type of photography which is private or which makes reference to issues of domesticity... Pamela Singh’s self-portraits taken in the village of Lutholim are the closest we have to Francesca Woodman in India, both photographers sharing a confidence in the expressive capabilities of their own bodies."

”The use of a ‘cave’ as a motif to explore the origins of our cognition has an unexpectedly wide application. In his ‘Allegory of the Cave’ the philosopher, Plato, hinted at the fundamental problem of ‘the virtual image and reality’ that underlies our perception of images. The religious scholar, Mircea Eliade, pointed out that caves are employed as places in which to reestablish one’s relationship with the outside world and re-assess oneself at a fundamental level.”

Chennai Photo Biennale is excited to present a Panel Discussion on Family Portraiture between photo-based artist Annu Matthew and fine art photographer Martine Fougeron.
Family photos are an essential testimony of the way of life of a given period of time. They inform on the social status of the subject family, the event for which photo was taken, the selection of family members displayed in the photo. The usual family patterns have been married couples with children, sometimes along with the grandparents. The group that is now considered to be a family is no longer with the same cast. On the photographer's side, the information lies on his social status, on the image he reworks on to adjust the result to his own and the client's expectations.

The Laurie M. Tisch Gallery will be showing selected works, including many from her series The Song of Deborah, which explores changes in her daughter, after she enlisted in the IDF. In The Song of Deborah, Sher presents a series of works that explore the mental and emotional changes in her daughter, Debby, and Debby’s friends, who enlisted in the IDF when they turned 18. The series also reflects the change that took place in the artist as she revisited issues she herself explored when she was the same age as her daughter is now.
Also on view are earlier works which address her own complex identity and relationship to her home country and culture.

Since 2009, sepiaEYE has showcased a wide spectrum of 20th-century and contemporary photo-based works, installations, and videos, including over 50 exhibitions in New York City.
The theme of one of our shows, Rectangular Squares (2014) was about framing and focus in photography—as in life. It served as a strong testament to the thoughtful brilliance and talent of the artists of which we have had the honor to exhibit.
And now it is time to reframe sepiaEYE.
In order to better support these visionary artists, we are refocusing our efforts and have closed our physical space in Chelsea. We will continue to curate, exhibit, and promote our gallery artists, along with new international projects underlining our commitment to the art of photography.
With much gratitude and appreciation to our artists, friends, collectors, curators, and public who have supported us over the years. We look forward to keeping you in our community as we embark on our next adventures.
Please continue to follow our projects and artists through our website, sepiaeye.com, social media, and email.

Works from Soumya Sankar Bose's series, Full Moon on a Dark Night will be on view at Refest 2019.
Inspired by the subconscious, Full Moon on a Dark Night shares stories from the artist’s LGBT friends in India – their rights, dreams, and desires. In a society that prevents them from living a ‘normal’ life, this work imagines a world in which freedom to live according to one’s own desires exists for all.
